A former songwriter who was recently promoted from Vice President of A&R to Partner at Range Music, Cotter had a whirlwind 2024 thinking 10 steps ahead with management clients Shaboozey and Paul Russell and their respective smash hits “Tipsy (A Bar Song)” and “Lil Boo Thang.” Cotter also co-manages producer/Range Publishing client Sean Cook, who produced both “Tipsy” and “Lil Boo Thang.”
The versatile Cotter was well-suited to guide the crossover of Shaboozey’s unique country/rap crossover sound into the pop culture zeitgeist along with co-manager Abas Pauti. While Shaboozey honed his live chops at tiny venues, they also networked at spots such as the regular industry showcases founded by Range Music’s Matt Graham at Nashville’s Winston House – where a Beyoncé A&R rep first heard Shaboozey and recommended him for inclusion on the former’s COWBOY CARTER album. In a perfect moment of synergy, it was released just before “Tipsy” began exploding.
But that was just the beginning. Remarkably, by the end of 2024, Shaboozey had performed on Saturday Night Live, Netflix’s live Christmas Day Halftime Show starring Beyoncé and at festivals such as Rolling Loud and Jingle Ball—and Cotter had simultaneously been building a high-profile of calendar of shows, sessions and deals that will keep them both busier than ever in 2025.
Shaboozey went on to receive six Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, and “Tipsy” spent a historic 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 25 atop the Hot Country Songs tally. In doing so, Shaboozey became the first act ever to crown the Country, Top 40, Rhythmic and Hot AC charts with the same song.
Shaboozey has further expanded his brand this year via partnerships with Google, Crocs, Jack Daniels, Coors Light, ESPN, Nerds and CashApp on his way to 2.5 billion global streams and an RIAA Platinum certification for his latest album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going. He was named a Billboard Executive of the Week and Manager to Watch and to Variety’s Hitmakers Impact List.
